Gjermund Molvik is a Norwegian based Sound designer who uses his locale as inspiration for experimental compositions using a modular synthesiser. His work within the commercial film and game industry has given him a highly developed sonic vocabulary which he transposes effortlessly into the world of experimental improvised electronics.
Whilst studying within the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design at the University of Bergen under tutorship of Frans Jacobi he became aquatinted with Rosa Jacobsen; a danish born media artist and experimental musician. Now based in Valparaíso, a port city on the coast of Chile, Jacobsen splits her time between facilitating music workshops promoting DIY cultures and developing her own sonic practice.
Since graduating in 2011 Molvik and Jacobsen have discussed at length working together on a series of collaborations utilising technology as means of communicating with each other remotely.
This release is the duos first collaborative project. It documents a years worth of remote communication using modular synthesis as the chosen medium of exchange. Upon receiving each transmission the artist gave an interpretive name to the composition and transmitted a response. A form of abstract letter.
This release is a chronological catalogue of these exchanges
